The passer Ricardo Calvo and centre Daymara Lescay were recognized as the best volleyball players in Cuba during 2015, a period in which beach volleyball stood out, according to the statement issued on Wednesday by the Cuban Federation of the sport.
The youngster Ricardo Calvo, from Villa Clara took a place in the senior national team in major tournaments of the year, including the World League, while he was also the captain of the U23 team that took fourth place in the World Tournament, held in the United Arab Emirates.
The girl from Guantanamo, now registered to play in the League of Peru, was outstanding for her results in that position, which earned her being the best blocker of the last World Cup, hosted by several cities in Japan.
The list of those highlighted is completed by Heidy Rodriguez Lopez (VCL), Melissa Vargas (CFG), Leila Martinez (LHA), Lianma Flores (LHA), Rolando Cepeda (SSP), Javier Jimenez (MTZ), Nivaldo Diaz (LHA) and Sergio Gonzalez (HOL).
Chosen as the most outstanding youths were Luis Tomas Sosa from Havana, member of national teams in various categories, and also the representative of Guantanamo, Yanileidy Sanchez, in beach volleyball, who reached the silver medal in Punta Cana, on the Norceca circuit.
Home Volleyball
In a short tournament, eight teams of boys and six of girls will play for the medals of the National Volleyball Championship between December 3 and 12.
Villa Clara will host the tournament for women, in which the sextets of Pinar del Rio, Havana, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Camagüey and hosts will participate.
Meanwhile, Pinar del Rio will host the men´s event. In addition to the provinces that have a presence in the women´s tournament, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba are added.
The schedule released by the National Commission envisages, in each case, a round robin and then disputing the medals among the four best placed.
