The plenary of the House of Representatives of Colombia approved, with 86 votes, the bill that will give way to the creation of a political party by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), Telesur reported.
This is the approval in second debate of the bill that allows the FARC-EP to participate in the country's politics. But the text still has to pass the debate and approval of the Senate.
The new bill will empower the FARC-EP to five seats in the House and five in the Senate, if no legislative seats are reached by popular vote; will also give the FARC-EP participation in the 2018 elections.
The member of the FARC-EP Secretariat and of the peace delegation Pastor Alape has assured that the new party will have revolutionary guidelines.
Likewise, Alape reported that the first Congress for the construction of the political party of the FARC-EP will take place next May.
The movement Voices for Peace and Reconciliation was announced in December, and this moment emerged as the embryo of the political party that will form the FARC-EP.
The vote took place one day considered as historic for Colombia by President Juan Manuel Santos, at the beginning of the process of delivery of arms by the insurgent movement.
And from last Wednesday onward, the tripartite supervisory mechanism, composed of United Nations observers and spokespersons, both government and rebel organization, should begin identifying and registering all weapons present in temporary camps, the first step in the process.
