Juan Formell y los Van Van, la leyenda (Juan Formell and Los Van Van, the legend) by journalist and music connoisseur Rafael Lam offering details about the so called Cuba’s musical train and its founding leader was launched in Havana this Friday.
The book that can be bought in the cultural fair Arte en La Rampa, approaches different stages of Formell’s compositions. The music lover will be surprised to know more about the career of the important composer and musician, his experience in Revé orchestra and that great project which is Van Van.
In his speech, Edmundo Pina assured that this book is a reference for all those interested in the musical history of Cuba. Pina who has been a trombonist for 33 years in the emblematic orchestra, said he was touched seeing this great tribute to Juan Formell Cortina and his group, with more than 47 years in the preference of the Cuban public.
For his part, Rafael Lam highlighted the photographic work by Iván Soca and the usefulness of writing about the popular groups, whose repertoires are a reflection for his followers and announced that one of his projects is to write about Benny Moré.
Juan Formell y los Van Van, la leyenda joins the considerable list of music related books published by Ediciones Cubanas –entity attached to Artex – among them stand out books dedicated to Buena Fe, Eliades Ochoa, Polo Montañez and Ignacio Piñeiro National Septet. (Yelanys Hernández Fusté)
