• In the cyclonic alarm phase, before the imminent passage of Hurricane Irma along the northern coast of Cuba, the provinces of Guantánamo, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Las Tunas, Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila and the municipality of Caibarién. Sancti Spíritus, Villa Clara and Cienfuegos are on the alert ; and Mayabeque and Havana, at the information stage.

• The population should not lose the perception of risk, and that all three events associated with this natural phenomenon should be considered: rain, wind and coastal floods, said Major General Ramón Pardo Guerra, head of the National General Staff of Civil Defense, in a meeting held on Thursday afternoon with the presence of the member of the PCC Political Bureau and president of the National Assembly of People´s Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández

• Deputy Minister of the FAR, general of the army corps Joaquín Quintas Solá, observed the preparation in the central region of the country, especially in Ciego de Ávila and Caibarién

• At the meeting of the Strategic Region of the Eastern Army, chaired by member of the PCC Political Bureau and deputy minister of FAR, army general Ramón Espinosa Martín, it was emphasized that the northern keys of the island will suffer the greatest crashes of the phenomenon

• Food, medical care and drinking water are guaranteed in all licensed evacuation centers

• Surgical medical brigades are activated in affected areas, which began on Thursday night with wave trains caused by the displacement of the hurricane

• Extreme measures were also taken in low-lying areas of the south coast, and did not neglect epidemiological surveillance throughout the country

• Cadres, leaders and officials were called upon to maintain a direct connection with the community, in order to ensure the evacuation

• Today´s forecastindicates that the intense hurricane will maintain category 5, with similar course, reducing its speed, and its effects will gradually begin to be felt in the central region of Cuba

• At the close of this edition, there were reports of strong winds associated with Irma in Maisí. In Baracoa it was raining hard
