Cuba to Honor Women Today

Over four million affiliates make up the Cuban Women Federation, an orgnization which is turning 
57 years of existence and has an enthusiastic and renewal spirit in its new generations

This August 23, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) is turning 57 years of existence, an organization that maintains the legacy of its eternal founding President, the heroine Vilma Espín Guillois, and currently has more than four million affiliates representing about 90 % of integration in relation to the potential of women over the age of entry, whose only requirements are the willingness to joinover the age of 14.

Itessentially operates in the community through the 173 Women and Family Counseling Houses existing in the country, it strengthens gender equality in the family and society, trains, teaches, convenes and provides guidance on diverse issues that concern people of all ages, population segments and offers training programs for preparation in different trades.

In addition, the organization develops coordination in advising various government ministries and agencies in the implementation of laws, public policies, programs, action plans, mechanisms, budgets, levels of employment and education, women's health, reproductive and sexual rights, access to management positions, equality in the family and in society.

FMC also maintains relations of exchange and solidarity with organizations, women's organizations and popular movements around the world engaged in the struggle for women's rights, peace and social justice, and actively takes part in international organizations.
