National Geographic magazine selected the best 31 beaches in the world, among them Cuba’s Sirena, Lindamar and Paraíso, located in Cayo Largo del Sur.

According to the magazine, "corsair Francis Drake and also Christopher Columbus landed on Cayo Largo before sailing accross the Atlantic," an island that five centuries later became "a unique destination to enjoy the sun and the waters of the Caribbean."

"With dwarf palm trees bending over the white sand," the beaches, which occupied the ninth place in the magazine's ranking, "preserve the image of Eden the ancient navigators found," the article added.

With 24 kilometers of unspoiled beaches and beautiful shallow coral reefs, Southern Cayo Largo is also considered as one of the best resorts for scuba diving in Cuba.

The selection, which included beaches from all continents, is led in the top five by Matemwe Beach, Zanzibar (Tanzania); Sarakiniko, Island of Milo (Greece); Ölüdeniz (Turkey); Cala Macarelleta, Menorca (Spain), and Ko Similan (Thailand).

According to National Geographic, in these places the traveler can find the world’s most irresistible sandy areas and coves, from the Mediterranean to the Pacific Ocean.
