Over 2.5 Million Visitors Have Come to Cuba So Far in 2017

At this rate our country can add up to 4.200,000 tourists in 2017

Over 2.530,000 visitors arrived in Cuba this year until last Tuesday, this figure anticipates the arrival of 4. 200,000 in 2017, if the current growth rate is maintained, said director general of Development, Investment and Business from the Minister of Tourism (MINTUR).

In a special lecture offered for the participants in the 12th International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism –holding sessions in Havana until next Friday-, the director said that a 22 % growth is observed as compared to the arrival of visitors to the country during the same period last year.

He said that at the end of May 67,769 rooms were in operation with the opening of two new hotels (Havana and Varadero) and by the end of 2017 it is expected to reach 68,200 capacities.

About the rumors circulating on the supposed closure of contracts of state travel agencies, the MINTUR official said that it is not so.

He assured that “in the last two weeks the contracts have only been reviewed, but right now new contracts are approved, as part of the country´s policy to complement state and non-state offers, and announced the existence of courses for self-employees´ guidance.
