The youth of yesterday and that of today came together at the Karl Marx Theater to celebrate the central act for the 55th Young Communist League (UJC) anniversary and the 56th of the José Martí Elementary Students’ Organization (OPJM). Attending the celebration were First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party and President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, second secretary of the Party’s Central Committee and Vice-president of the Councils of State and Ministers José Ramón Machado Ventura, as well as first secretary of the UJC National Committee Susely Morfa González.
A special moment of the gala was the posthumous award of the Commemorative Medal for the 55th Anniversary of the UJC to the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and also to Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque. Raúl, Machado Ventura and the Association of Veteran Fighters for the Cuban Revolution were also honored with the high distinction.
In her intervention UJC First Secretary Susely Morfa stressed that the Revolution has been and will always be a youth’s creation, and it has been enriched with the ideas, dreams, efforts and life of every generation. “Here is the youth of today, the child of the historic generation, aware of its mission and the future and present challenges.”
Morfa González said that 55 years after that April 4 the youth is still optimistic, persistent and guided by Fidel’s fighting spirit. “True to that legacy we continue to believe endlessly in victory. Committed to out history, our time and our immortal Party we’ll always care for the Revolution and will not fail.”
Many artists, among them pianist Roberto Carlos Rodríguez «Cucurucho» Valdés, the Jóvenes Clásicos del Son group, the children’s theater company La Colmenita, Aramís Padilla and Héctor Gutiérrez accompanied by young repentistas, as well as Buena Fe, Moncada and Casabe turned the gala into a multi-color show, in which there was no shortage of audiovisual presentations about thinking of Fidel, Ché and Raúl with reference to the youth.
First Vice-president Miguel Díaz-Canel, among other members of the Politburo and the CCP Central Committee, ministers and other authorities were also in the act.
