SANTIAGO DE CUBA.— An intense program of activities of social impact, aimed at involving all the children, adolescents and young people of this province, has been organized by the Young Communist League (UJC) as part of the celebrations for its 55th anniversary and the 56th of the José Martí Elementary Students´ Organization (OPJM).
A flurry of activity is underway. Committed with the continuity of the Revolution the youth will pay tribute to the National Hero José Martí, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and the heroes and martyrs who died in the revolutionary struggle. Deceased leaders of the organization will also be remembered.
Mass blood donations, meetings with past leaders of the organization, exhibitions by special interest clubs, an antiimperialist camping on the grounds of former Moncada Barracks and the biking tour around historical sites of the city are activities included in the celebrations for the UJC anniversary.
An important act will take place on April 1st , at the eternal flame of Santa Ifigenia cemetery with the attendance of members of the UJC National Bureau, when 500 new affiliates will be awarded membership cards, as confirmed by First UJC secretary in the province Annia Poblador Serguera.
The activities for the new anniversary will also include the celebration of fairs during the whole weekend, carnivals staged by the students, games and simultaneous chess games to take place at the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square.
The jubilee will also have cultural galas in different stages, recognitions to outstanding students and youngsters in their schools and workplaces, as well as a cultural-political gala, scheduled for April 4 at 5 pm in the areas of Heredia Theater.
