The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the José Martí Pioneers Organization are calling all the Cuban schoolchildren to take part in the Amigos de las FAR competition.
All students from primary and secondary schools, as well as from special education centers will be allowed.
Pioneers between 1st and 3rd grades will compete in drawing, while students from 4th to 6th grades and from 7th to 9th grade, will compete in literature, letter style, divided in two levels; in addition students from 7th to 9th grade will compete in poetry. Special education students will compete in drawing from 1st to 9th grade.
Pioneers between 1st and 3rd grades and those of special education should express their vision of our struggle for independence, like the Attack on Moncada barracks, the Granma expedition, the Bay of Pigs victory, the internationalist missions carried out by FAR, the role of Cuban women in defense or some other event related to the defense of the homeland.
Students from 1st to 3rd grade will need to remember the following elements: the love, warmth and admiration pioneers feel for the FAR members, the importance given by students to the defense of the homeland, on the FAR anniversary.
The letter will be made individually but on behalf of all the Cuban pioneers.
The municipal, provincial and national boards will handpick the best five among all according to its content, creativity and expression within the following categories:
- Fine Art Award for pioneers from 1st to 3rd grade.
- Fine Art Award for special education at large.
- Letter award for pioneers from 4th to 6th grade first level.
- Letter award for pioneers from 7th to 9th grade second level.
- Poetry award for the second level.
The drawings should be presented in a format above 8 ½ x 13 cm and up to 40 x 60 cm, using pencil, wax crayon or another techniques (cutouts from publications will be invalid).
All the works should be written by hand, with the author’s name and last name, school, municipality, province, grade, ID number, age and sex.
The competition will be open until March 30.
