The defense of the highest human values at the current time in Cuba and in the world was the essential topic of the exchange that members of the National Bureau of the Young Communist League (UJC) from student organizations and youth movements, held with representatives of the new generation of religious leaders in Cuba last Thursday.
The meeting was aimed to identify common elements which could turn into concrete actions for the joint work. This was assured by the First Secretary of the UJC National Committee Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, who assessed this dialogue as vital, since it is taking place in a decisive moment for humanity and Cuba, which are immersed in important changes.
The youth leader said that it’s good that the talk has been held among Cubans, among those who defend an ideal of justice and peace. We must continue building bridges, because we can still do things together from the diversity, and especially in that goal of building the new man and the society we want. We have to do it always from the unity around patriotic values.
After that the member of the National Bureau of the UJC Joan Cabo Mijares shared with the religious leaders a brief explanation on the running, aims and challenges of the organization, both parties exchanged points of view on matters of interest and about how helpful the coordinated work can be on issues essential as the union of the family, the need of developing the best values in the new generations and the importance of the community action.
The member of the World Evangelical Mission Yusmari Cuello Rojas, from Guantánamo, commented on the possibilities of the Church for helping to achieve unity, for raising awareness towards spirituality and the best causes of society. While, the member of the Evangelical Free Church Alaín Alvarez Montano, from Villa Clara, admitted that «we must walk together as we have many mutual objectives and as we really want the truth in the heart of youth. »
Regarding the issues that identify young believers or not, the member of the World Evangelical Mission José Carlos Fernández Aguiar, from Artemisa, highlighted the work at the base and the importance of strengthening the people’s identity, because «this is the time of Cuba, of all of us, including the challenges.» Ruth Mariet Trueba from the Council of Churches of Cuba, stressed the value of having joint spaces for reflection, because «we have in our hands the possibility of building, creating, doing. »
Other participants talked about the inspirations shared, like the concern for the environment, human health, the critical view that the world should have, migration, cultural consumption and youth recreation, including sexuality as a priority.
Both, the President of the Marti Youth Movement Yusuam Palacios Ortega and the Director of the Center for Youth Studies Teresa Viera Hernandez, talked about the idea of working together to preserve the spirituality of Cuba and the values that distinguish us as Cubans.
The top priority of the exchange was that «we, believers or not, have the duty of being united, » in times like these, as pointed out by many of the young. And the highest challenge is precisely how to bring new ideas to fruition, how we can run the existing public spaces, and all new spaces that will be created.
