Getting the young to meet the challenges of these times is one of the priorities of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), expressed the general secretary, Teresa Amarelle Boue, during the main activity for International Women's Day, this March 8, in Ciego de Avila.
Amarelle Boue said they are fortunate to live in Cuba, a country where women have been dignified, and that the environment of equality and respect created by the Revolution has allowed them to develop their full potential as full human beings and achieve high levels of participation in the society.
“Cuban women have many reasons to celebrate. International Women's Day is a holiday in our country: postcards, flowers, special mornings, all kinds of activities are held in work and student tplaces in urban and rural areas, and in many communities. It is the expression of our society’s recognition of the contribution of women in building the new country," she said.
She added that in 2016 this celebration is motivated by the 90th birthday of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, chief architect of the humanist conception of the revolution about the equality of women in the construction of a socialist society.
During the day, in which a greeting was transmitted to all Cuban federation members, they recognized the legacy of Vilma Espin, eternal president of the FMC, who conceived the organization as an area for the improvement of women and a pillar for the defence of the revolutionary values.
The political-cultural act became opportunity to recognize 19 outstanding women in different sectors of the economy and services, and the actions of the organization from the base and the Guidance Houses for Women and the Family.
As quoted by the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the women in Ciego de Avila occupy 41 percent of all state workers in the province, mainly in education, health, trade and catering, light industry and farming.
