HAVANA- The Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Diaz in Havana confirmed that the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Raul Castro Ruz, will visit France, as the Cuban president himself announced on December 29 speaking at the Sixth Regular Session of the Eighth Legislature of the National Assembly of People´s Power, published the CubaMinrex site.
This will be a state visit and will take place during the 1st and 2nd of February, 2016, in response to the invitation extended by his French counterpart Francois Hollande.
According to the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, the visit is an expression of the excellent state of bilateral relations and the political dialogue at the highest level between Cuba and France, and will continue the successful visit by the French president to Havana, on May 11 2015.
Sierra Diaz also stressed the will to expand and diversify bilateral relations with France in its political, economic, commercial, financial, investment, cooperation and cultural dimensions. He also stressed the importance of the Gallic country as a trading partner for the island.
France and Cuba established diplomatic relations in 1902; both countries have strong historical and cultural ties.
Since 1992, France has voted in the United Nations in favour of lifting the US blockade against Cuba, Sierra Diaz recalled.
