The Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) paid homage to Reverend Lucius Walker on the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of his death, and the work of solidarity he left was remembered. Speakers praised his live; all of them shared their own memories or those that arose over the years. Because Rev. Lucius Walker went ahead his time, and he was the main promoter and organizer of the caravans of Pastors for Peace.

Rev. Lucius Walker had the capability of gathering together persons with different beliefs, he firmly defended his ideals on risk of his life, he felt admiration for the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution and he commanded the caravans of Pastors for Peace, that year after year, since 1992, have been daring the U.S blockade.

Thus, the director for the Division of Africa and Middle East at the ICAP Orlaida Cabrera said that «the ideas he sowed are germinating today. » And Pastor Liudmila Hernández of the Presbyterian-Reformed Church in Cuba said that «Lucius is present in each action for peace and reconciliation. »

For her part, the Head of the Office for Religious Affairs at the Central Committee of the Communist Party Caridad Diego talked deeply about Rev. Lucius’ life, and she made a recall of the fasts he did for defending the cargo that Pastors for Peace brought, when it seemed to be retained in the borders; his solidarity with causes like that of Elian, the return of the Five, or the arrival of the U.S young students, who have poor incomes, for studying Medicine in Cuba, initiative that has at present more than hundreds of graduates.

Caridad Diego highlighted that «his work made a contribution to the historical time the Cuban people is living at present for the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States. »   She also assured that the best homage for Rev. Lucius Walker is to be consistent with his life, and she noted the long way that his followers have to travel, because the blockade, which is the reason for the existence of the Pastor for Peace caravans, is still in force.

The Head of International Relations at the Central Committee José Ramón Balaguer; Rev. Joan Campbel; the Heroes Ramón and Fernando, and officials from the ICAP were preset during the activity, among other leaders and members of different religious orders.

Lucius Walker was very close. He was probability applauding with his clear smile the song by Dalila Tito San Jorge or the performance of the chorus of the Mariana de Gonich Academy. He returned again to the mahogany tree he had sawed years ago in the garden of the Casa de la Amistad, and he became alive in his work.
