A celebration for everyone and a day for reflection, consolidation and tribute is coming up this September 4 on the 70th anniversary of Fidel’s enrollment in the University of Havana, the new chair of the University Student Federation (FEU) Jennifer Bello Martínez told Juventud Rebelde.
She said that every Higher Educational Center in the country is called on to carry out different activities. Among them, she highlighted inter-generation exchanges, history lectures, political and cultural galas, exhibitions, trips down Martí’s memory lane and others about the ideas of Fidel in today’s context.
As expressed by the student leader, the Commander in Chief has become an everlasting classmate, and the University was, as he said more than once, the cradle of his revolutionary identity. “we should learn every day from his ideas and turn them into actions to keep securing the present and the future of Cuba”, she said.
Bello Martínez underscored that the opening of the 2015-2016 school year and the reception of first year students were dedicated to this transcendental moment.
Cuba´s most ancient university is involved in diverse activities; one of them is this Thursday’s photo exhibition Fidel de corazón, at the student residence on 12th and Malecón. This contains pictures of different actions developed by university students on this date.
Matching the celebration, the activities on September 4 will start with a morning trek from Fragua Martiana to the Colina Universitaria. Shortly after, in the premises of the School of Law, where Fidel studied, the national act will take place, in which eight personalities and institutions with impact on the cultural and political life of the organization and the country will be awarded the Alma Máter Prize.
Likewise, El joven Fidel exhibition, with moments depicting the Commander in Chief in his years at school, will be inaugurated. In his honor and the achievements of the Cuban Higher Education tweets will be send through the social network. For its part, cultural center La pupila asombrada, at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism will dedicate this Friday’s program to the commemoration.
The activities –which started last school year on a day named Fidel de Corazón and through the creation of the 70th Anniversary Group- will be extended until November 17, International Student Day, 10 years after Fidel delivered a memorable and visionary speech in the main lecture hall at the University of Havana.
