International Youth Day celebrations in Birán, a town in Holguín, also receives the homage paid by the representation of the youth from the Eastern provinces to Fidel on his 89th birthday´s anniversary

On the occasion of the International Youth Day and the 89th birthday of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, different celebrations like camps, concerts, meetings, talks, dances, sports activities and the launch of books, have been taking place since yesterday and continue today.
More than 400 students and young workers from the five Eastern provinces and Camagüey went to Birán, the historic town in Cueto municipality in Holguín, where they were the protagonists of a special camp last night.
During yesterday afternoon and evening, the initiative named Razones para luchar (Reasons for fighting) developed different activities like music, camping, poetry, theater where the bohemian and rebel spirit was present. According to the official for the Ideological Department of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League (UJC) in Holguín Luis Enrique Ricardo, and members of the delegations in the territory are taking part in production tasks in the 6 de agosto farm, and afterwards they will attend the Diálogo de Generaciones (Generation Talks) at the Mixed School in the locality.
Celebrations also included a political-cultural evening and a concert by the vocal musical group Entre Líneas from Holguin that kicked off at midnight. And the first commitment for today has been a massive participation in blood donation, together with recreational activities that have been arranged especially for the children.
The homage that Holguín pays to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution on the occasion of his birthday, also includes the launch of the book Raúl Castro: un hombre en Revolución, and the opening of an exhibition of 89 images and Fidel´s personal items at Birán´s Monument Complex.
For his part, the Head of the International Relations Department in the National Committee of the UJC José Ángel Maury said that young people from the Hermanos Saíz Association are carrying out activities like the caguairán (a kind of tree) sawing in Pinar del Río; climbing up different hills like the Taburete hill in Artemisa; the Caballete de Casa in Sancti Spíritus; the Gran Piedra, in Santiago de Cuba, and the Pico Turquino. And, among other the local initiatives there are small carnivals in Mayabeque; a triathlon in Matanzas, Circus in Ciego de Ávila, Farming Fair and rodeo in Camagüey, retreats of the municipal bands in Guantánamo and the usual cutting of giant cakes throughout Cuba.
In the Capital, the winners of the photographic competition Jóvenes en el lente have been awarded today, and the book Razones para luchar y vencer is being launched at Pabellón Cuba. A concert by Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco will say goodnight at the Antiimperialist Tribune.
The children’s carnival in the Ciudad Deportiva and the premier of the cartoons Elpidio Valdés at Pabellón Cuba will take place in the afternoon of August 13. And at the same time, a Generation Talk, arranged by the Young Martí Movement, under the slogan ¨The Centenarian Generation: passion for Cuba,¨ will kick off at the Alma Máter bookstore, and the descendants of the fighters in the underground fight will take part in the talk.
