The importance of foreign investment in Cuba´s tourism sector, with a portfolio of 101 new business opportunities for expanding and diversifying its infrastructure, was exposed today by the business director of the Ministry of Tourism, José Daniel Alonso, during the opening of the 10th International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism.

Alonso stressed that among the development niches, Cuba proposes southern Cienfuegos-Trinidad, northern Camaguey, Las Tunas and Holguin areas, although business possibilities in other regions are not discounted.

It meant that for the leisure industry patterns of diving and recreational boating, tours of cities and tours, and nature tourism, options that offer large untapped potential are enhanced.

The official said that by 2020 it is expected to complete an infrastructure of 85,000 rooms, and by 2030 it is expected to reach 110,000.

In addition, he referred to the real estate development associated with tourism, with the prospect of 13 projects by 2020, according to the new opportunities presented by the Law on Foreign Investment in Cuba.

Based at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism in Havana, the meeting, which will be held until Friday, with the presence of about 70 industry professionals from 12 countries, including the United States, Ecuador, Colombia, Italy, Panama, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras.

This seminar is held annually under the auspices of the Union of Journalists of Cuba and with the participation of the tourist press circle.
